Using The Web UI

Find your way around Phaeton's local web interface: the Charging, Schedule, Settings and System pages, who controls charging, and how settings changes are applied.

Open The Web UI

Open https://GX-IP:8088/ in a browser on the local network, or open Phaeton remotely from VRM; see VRM Control Panel. A charger added under Chargers on this GX has its own port. Sign in with the Phaeton administrator account you created during setup.

The sidebar holds the four pages: Charging, Schedule, Settings and System. The top bar shows the connection status, the license chip, which reads Licensed or Not licensed, and the Phaeton version. When Phaeton is not licensed, the license chip opens activation.

The theme button switches between automatic, dark and light. Automatic follows your device's setting; the choice is kept in this browser.

Charging

The Charging page shows the charger's live state and its controls.

  • Manual, Auto and Scheduled select the charging mode. Selecting a mode does not change Start/Stop. The caption under Auto shows who decides now.
  • The status line gives the reason charging runs or waits, with a countdown when Auto is about to start or stop. See Troubleshooting when it keeps waiting.
  • Start charging and Stop charging set Start/Stop. While the Victron GX controls Auto, the GX starts charging; switch to Manual to start it here.
  • Manual current preset sets the current for Manual, within the charging limits.
  • The phase control, 1 phase or 3 phases, sets the phases for Manual and Scheduled when the charger can switch.
  • Where the energy comes from shows live Solar, Grid, Battery and Car readings when GX data is available, and a ribbon with how much of the session came from solar and how much from the grid. A source without a reading is left out rather than shown as zero.
  • Connected vehicle shows the car's last reported battery, charge target, estimated range and battery capacity once the Victron GX has identified the car.
  • Session time, Session energy, Session cost and Saved by solar summarize the session. The cost uses the rate or the VRM prices under Settings → System → Session pricing.
  • Electrical details lists the requested and commanded current limit, the measured current and the charger maximum. Charging history draws the charging current and power over a time range you choose, and Past sessions lists earlier sessions.

The requested current is your preference; the commanded current limit is what Phaeton last sent to the charger. When energy readings are unavailable, the last counter stays on screen, and session totals resume when fresh readings return.

Schedule

The Schedule page holds the weekly charging windows that Scheduled mode follows, the next window, and the VRM price preview for windows with a price limit. See Charging modes for how to edit windows.

Settings

Settings has four pages. On a phone, choose the page from the Settings section list.

PageWhat it holds
ChargingThe Auto mode, the Battery-powered and Feed-in settings, and Start automatically when connected
Charger & installationThe charger integration and connection test, charging limits, phases and inverter protection
Victron GXThe charger connection to the GX, pairing, and the solar & battery readings
SystemTime, Help improve Phaeton, Session pricing, Access and Maintenance
  • Technical options sit under Advanced in each card. Find a setting searches every page, including Advanced, and shows where each result sits; selecting a result opens it and moves the focus to its control, or to the setting and the reason it does not apply now, without changing anything.
  • A setting that does not apply at the moment explains when it applies. On the GX, values that Phaeton sets by itself are shown as fixed, with the reason.
  • System → Maintenance links to Software updates, Health and Logs. Its Advanced part holds Reset charger settings, which resets this installation to defaults but keeps the sign-in details.

Pending Configuration Changes

Every Settings page edits the same set of changes. Nothing is saved until you choose Apply changes, and Discard restores the last saved settings. The Unsaved changes bar appears only while you have changes, and your changes stay while you move between pages.

  • Apply changes checks every changed setting at once. Each invalid field shows its message, the save bar lists them all as links, and the focus moves to the first; your changes stay.
  • Settings that take a whole number accept whole numbers only.
  • While you have changes that are not applied, the Settings item in the navigation shows a dot.
  • Changes saved elsewhere, such as on the Schedule page, are kept unless they change the same setting. Settings then asks you to discard your changes and reload.
  • Settings you cannot see keep their saved values.
  • Switching between the dummy integration and a real charger restarts Phaeton when you apply it.
  • A new web address, web port or data location is saved, but Phaeton keeps using the old one until it restarts. Settings reminds you of this on later saves; setting the old value again clears the reminder.
  • Applying changes while the Victron GX controls Auto ends GX control and stops charging until the GX takes control again or you choose Start charging.
  • Connecting or disconnecting VRM under Session pricing saves at once, separately from these changes.

The Charging page follows the saved settings, not unsaved changes.

Who Controls Charging

In Manual and Scheduled, Phaeton controls charging. In Auto, the Auto mode under Settings → Charging decides:

  • With Battery-powered or Feed-in, Phaeton decides, as a Victron EV Charging Station does.
  • With Controlled by the Victron GX, the GX decides once a GX feature, such as Opportunity Loads or Dynamic ESS, takes control. Until then, and after the GX hands control back, Phaeton charges as Battery-powered.

Choosing Controlled by the Victron GX switches the charger connection to MQTT, because the GX can take over only over MQTT. On another computer this needs pairing; see Victron GX setup. The Charging page shows who decides in the Auto caption and next to Start/Stop. Phaeton's charging limits, phase checks and inverter protection apply whoever decides.

Start Automatically When Connected

Start automatically when connected, under Settings → Charging → Starting a session, enables charging when a car is plugged in, also when it is already plugged in as Phaeton starts. Turning it on with a car connected enables charging after the next fresh charger reading.

  • Auto and Scheduled still wait for their solar, battery and schedule conditions.
  • A Stop stays in effect until the car is unplugged and plugged in again, or until you start charging. Changing the setting does not cancel a Stop.
  • While the GX controls Auto, the GX starts charging and this setting does not apply. Manual, Scheduled, and Auto while the GX is not in control still use it.

Restarts

A planned restart, for example after an update or a change that needs one, stops charging output for a moment and keeps your last Start/Stop choice. After a restart the GX must take control of Auto again; until it does, Controlled by the Victron GX charges as Battery-powered.

System

System has these tabs:

  • Health shows the web service, the charger connection and the GX control link, polling, and the charger's readings and diagnostics. Open Health on a charging fault opens it.
  • Logs shows live logs with a filter and the device log level, and has Contact support. Copying, the log downloads, Download support bundle and clearing the displayed logs are under More.
  • Updates holds Software updates, from a package or from the release channel; see Updates.
  • Chargers on this GX adds, names, restarts and removes chargers. It appears only in the first Phaeton installation on the GX; see Multiple chargers.

License details, the install ID and activation are described in Activation.
