Getting Started

Understand what Phaeton does, what you need before installation, and the normal setup order.

What Phaeton Does

Phaeton connects a supported third-party EV charger to a Victron GX system. It communicates with the charger over local Modbus TCP, local HTTP or the manufacturer cloud, depending on the model, and presents it to Victron as an EV Charging Station.

Use Phaeton when you want your charger to appear in the GX device list, in VRM, and in the Victron power flow while keeping local control through the Phaeton web interface.

Phaeton runs on your own equipment, normally on the GX itself. It reads live data from the charger, presents the charger to the GX and VRM, and serves a web interface at https://GX-IP:8088/ for setup, charging control, schedules, updates and logs. For Auto mode it reads the solar, grid and battery values of your Victron system.

What You Need

  • A model from the Supported chargers page, with its required control interface enabled.
  • The charger connection details: a local address, or approved cloud credentials and charger identification. For a Modbus TCP charger, also its Modbus TCP port, usually 502.
  • A Victron GX device. Local chargers must be reachable over the local network; cloud integrations require internet access.
  • For the recommended USB installation: physical access to a GX with 32-bit Venus OS, such as the devices under Which GX devices it supports, a dedicated empty FAT32/MBR USB stick with at least 256 MB free, and a computer with internet to download the installer. The GX can be offline during installation.
  • Local browser access to Phaeton at https://GX-IP:8088/ for setup, from a computer on the same local network as the GX, or VRM Control Panel when the GX is online.
  • SSH and internet access from the GX only when using the advanced SSH installer.
