Getting Started

Understand what Phaeton does, what you need before installation, and the normal setup order.

What Phaeton Does

Phaeton connects a supported third-party EV charger to a Victron GX system. It reads the charger over Modbus TCP and presents it to Victron as a compatible EV Charging Station.

Use Phaeton when you want your charger to appear in the GX device list, in VRM, and in the Victron power flow while keeping local control through the Phaeton web interface.

What You Need

  • A supported charger with Modbus TCP enabled.
  • The charger IP address or hostname.
  • A Victron GX device on the same local network.
  • For the recommended USB installation: physical access to a 32-bit ARMv7 GX, a dedicated empty FAT32/MBR USB stick with at least 256 MB free, and a computer with internet to download the installer. The GX can be offline during installation.
  • Local browser access to Phaeton at https://GX-IP:8088/ for setup. Phaeton 0.59.0 adds managed VRM Control Panel access for fresh GX installs and named MQTT instances; earlier releases require a separately prepared trial route.
  • SSH and internet access from the GX only when using the advanced SSH installer.
