First-Run Onboarding

Create the local admin account, choose the charger and the Auto mode, and finish setup.

When The Wizard Appears

The wizard appears on fresh installations and when an older installation still uses the retired default password. While onboarding is pending, Phaeton keeps charging control inactive.

Open https://GX-IP:8088/ on the local network, or https://HOST-IP:8088/ when Phaeton runs on another computer, or open it remotely through VRM Control Panel. No setup code, file from the GX or SSH access is needed. Finish setup on a trusted network: the first person who completes the wizard creates the administrator account.

GX Settings For Control Panel

To open the wizard remotely, the GX needs internet, VRM Portal set to Full, a recent Last contact and a VRM account that may change settings. Keep Modifications enabled on. On the GX, Phaeton sets up its own Control Panel route; an older installation that connects over Modbus TCP gets it only after setup and activation, so finish those locally first.

Open Through VRM Control Panel

In VRM, open your installation, select Device list, expand the intended Phaeton EV Charging Station and select Control Panel. During onboarding the entry is named Phaeton. Remote Console opens the GX interface instead. VRM does not sign you in: create your Phaeton administrator account there, or sign in with it.

VRM Availability And Local Fallback

Use local HTTPS for commissioning when you are on site. If Control Panel is missing or opens the GX, continue locally at https://GX-IP:8088/ or the port of an added charger; local access works without VRM or GX internet. System → Chargers on this GX shows the Control Panel status of each charger.

Wizard Steps

  • For local HTTPS, compare the browser certificate fingerprint with PHAETON-RESULT.html on the USB stick or the SSH installer output before continuing. The VRM relay presents its own HTTPS certificate; the local device fingerprint does not apply to it.
  • Admin account: choose a username of 3 to 64 characters and a password of at least 8 characters, and check the Timezone, which schedules and history use. No setup code is required.
  • Charger: select your charger integration and enter its connection details. Choose Dummy — no license required to try Phaeton with a simulated charger, or Skip for now — choose the charger later and select it afterwards with Change charger. Single-phase only keeps charging on one phase.
  • Victron GX: choose how Auto mode charges and enter the GX connection details. On the GX, setup starts from Controlled by the Victron GX, which connects to the GX over MQTT. On another computer it starts from Battery-powered: the GX can take over Auto charging there only after you pair Phaeton with it in Settings. Read solar and battery data from GX gives Battery-powered and Feed-in the readings they need; over Modbus TCP, Test GX data connection checks them.
  • Finish: review the summary, choose whether to share usage and diagnostics, and select Finish. You can change the charger, the Auto mode and the GX settings later in Settings.

Share Usage And Diagnostics

The checkbox Share usage and diagnostics to help improve Phaeton on the last step is off by default. When you turn it on, Phaeton stores and sends small daily summaries of charger compatibility, reliability, performance, feature use, setup and update outcomes. They contain no device identifiers, raw logs, charging schedules or energy readings. Charging and licensing do not depend on it, and offline activation does not change it.

Change your choice later under Settings → System → Help improve Phaeton, where Preview queued report data shows what Phaeton would send. Turning it off also clears queued reports. The privacy policy describes what is sent and how long it is kept.

After Saving

When you select Finish, Phaeton saves the configuration to config.yaml in its data folder, /data/phaeton on the GX, restarts by itself and then shows the sign-in page. Sign in with the admin credentials you just created, then activate Phaeton and check the charger connection.
